Spinout Support Framework

The Spinout Support Framework (SSF) aims to promote and support the creation of new businesses in the context of the higher education sector in Wales in order to stimulate local job and wealth creation.

Ideas for new businesses might come from;
  • Final year projects
  • Postgraduate research projects
  • University research projects
  • Industrial placements
  • Independent entrepreneurs and inventors
  • Companies working with higher education institutions (HEIs)
The SSF gives people the opportunity to start a business in conjunction with a higher education institution and receive special help with finance, technical and/or business expertise and possibly assistance with incubator accommodation.

Who is eligible?
  • Undergraduates
  • Graduates (including graduates of Welsh HEIs and graduates of other institutions returning to Wales)
  • Postgraduate students
  • Researchers
  • Academics
  • Individuals from outside higher education
  • Existing companies developing new projects
The key criteria are that the business:
  • either comes from a HEI or needs significant help from an HEI to get off the ground and,
  • is established as a new company limited by shares or is an existing company working on a new development,
  • is based in Wales.
To be eligible, the business cannot be more than 50% owned by a large company or public body.

Businesses that are already established are eligible if they are developing a new project which needs HEI support.
